Joshua Langstaff
B. 1978, Michigan
Raised in the forests of Northern Michigan, Joshua Langstaff has always been attracted to the sublime beauty of the natural world. Early on, this affinity began to express itself in the form of art. A career as an artist was without question. Joshua studied traditional painting techniques with Juliette Aristides in her acclaimed Classical Atelier in Seattle, WA. He has also studied with other master representational painters including; Anthony Ryder, Michael Grimaldi, and Steven Assael. In the summers of 2007 and 2008, Joshua and thirty other painters, joined Jacob Collins to explore the methods of the Hudson River School in the Catskill Mountains.
Joshua works in the realist tradition attempting to simultaneously capture the naturalistic appearance and spiritual resonance of his subjects. In addition to receiving many portrait commissions, he has shown his work at galleries in Seattle, New York and in Michigan. Joshua and his wife Anna currently reside in Portland, Maine.
